Retinol (vitamin A) provides clinically proven effects in counteracting hyperpigmentation as well as in amplifying and accelerating the renewal of the epidermal cells. By accelerating the maturation of keratinocytes, the contact time between keratinocytes and melanocytes is reduced, which in turn reduces the transfer of keratinocytes and melanocytes and the intensity of staining of keratinocytes. The result is a fairly rapid and noticeable lightening of hyperpigmented skin. It is effective against thin and moderate wrinkles by reducing the visibility of wrinkles. This primarily occurs due to the increased ability of the epidermis to retain moisture by stimulating the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans, transforming growth beta factors and procollagen, and hence collagen.
